Al-Ḥasan ibn Yaʿqūb said: “Abū ʿAbd Allāh al-Būshanji was lodged in Nishapur at the Laythiyya. When his term there came to an end, he set out for Bukhara and entered the presence of the amir Ismāʿīl. After staying with him for a while, he asked that his stipends in Nishapur be officially registered.”
Al-Ḥākim related: “I heard al-Ḥusayn ibn al-Ḥasan al-Ṭūsī say that he heard Abū ʿAbd Allāh al-Būshanji remark, ‘Seven hundred thousand dirhams (1) have come to me from the Laythiyya.’”
Daʿlaj said: “I heard Abū ʿAbd Allāh—while pointing to Ibn Khuzaymah—say, ‘He is shrewd; I would not say that of Abū Thawr.’”
Abū ʿAbd Allāh ibn al-Akhram stated: “Al-Bukhārī included a ḥadīth in the Ṣaḥīḥ that he took from Abū ʿAbd Allāh al-Būshanji.”
Ibn al-Dhahabī (2) said in the Ṣaḥīḥ (3): “‘Muḥammad narrated to us, Abū Jaʿfar al-Nufaylī narrated to us…,’ and he cited a ḥadīth in the commentary on Sūrat al-Baqarah. If the unnamed transmitter is not al-Būshanji, then it is Muḥammad ibn Yaḥyā; yet the preponderant view is that it is al-Būshanji, for the very same report was transmitted by al-Ḥākim: ‘Abū Bakr ibn Abī Naṣr narrated to us; al-Būshanji narrated to us; al-Nufaylī narrated to us; Miskīn ibn Bukayr narrated to us; Shuʿbah narrated to us; from Khālid al-Ḥadhdhāʾ; from Marwān al-Aṣfar; from a man—namely Ibn ʿUmar—that the verse, “If you disclose what is in your hearts…” (al-Baqarah 2:284) was abrogated.’”
