He remained alive beyond 290 AH.
293 – Yaḥyā ibn Manṣūr ibn Ḥasan al-Sulamī *
The imam, ḥāfiẓ, trustworthy authority, ascetic, exemplar, and leading hadith scholar of Herat: Abū Saʿd (1) al-Harawī.
He studied under ʿAlī ibn al-Madīnī, Aḥmad ibn Ḥanbal, Abū Muṣʿab, Ibn Rāhwayh, Ibn Numayr, Suwayd ibn Saʿīd, Yaʿqūb ibn Kāsib, Ḥibbān ibn Mūsā, and many others of their tier.
Among those who narrated from him are ʿAbd al-Ṣamad al-Tastī, Abū Bakr Aḥmad ibn Khalaf, Muḥammad ibn Ṣāliḥ ibn Hāniʾ, ʿAlī ibn Ḥumshādh, Aḥmad ibn ʿĪsā al-Ghayzānī, Abū Bakr al-Shāfiʿī, Ismāʿīl al-Khuṭabī, and others.
He also related hadith in Baghdad.
Abū Bakr al-Khaṭīb records that he died in Herat in 287 AH (2), adding: “He was reliable, a ḥāfiẓ, and an ascetic.”
I say: the correct date is that he passed away in Dhū al-Ḥijjah, 292 AH.
He was astonishing in his devotion and worship; people said that he had never seen anyone the like of himself. May Allah have mercy on him.
He was born in 215 AH.
