recitation in those rakʿahs where the imam recites aloud. He answered, “He should recite only the Opening Chapter (al-Fātiḥa) of the Book.” (1)
I heard ʿAbd Allah ibn Saʿd say: “Ibrāhīm passed away on the second of Rajab in the year 295 AH. His nephew, who was also his heir, led the funeral prayer, and he was buried in the cemetery of al-Ḥusayn ibn Muʿādh.”
Ibn Abī ʿAsrūn, Ibn ʿAsākir, and Bint Kindī transmitted to us—by direct audition—from al-Muʾayyad ibn Muḥammad, Abū Rūḥ, and Zaynab al-Shaʿriyyah. Al-Muʾayyad said: “Muḥammad ibn al-Faḍl informed us.” Abū Rūḥ said: “Tamīm al-Muʾaddib informed us.” Al-Shaʿriyyah said: “Ismāʿīl the Qurʾān-reciter informed us.” They all reported:
ʿUmar ibn Masrūr told us, Ismāʿīl ibn Nujayd told us, Ibrāhīm ibn Abī Ṭālib narrated to us, Abū Kurayb narrated to us, Abū Khālid narrated to us, from Shuʿbah, from ʿĀṣim, from Zirr, from ʿAlī—may Allah ennoble his face—who said:
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “O ʿAlī! Ask Allah for guidance (hudā) and soundness (sadād); with guidance you find the way, and with soundness you hit the target.”
Its chain of transmission is strong, yet the authors of the Six Books did not record it. (2)
In that same year there also died along with him: al-Ḥasan ibn ʿAlī al-Maʿmarī (3) and Abū Jaʿfar al-Tirmidhī.
