271 – Nasrak, Abū Muḥammad Naṣr ibn Aḥmad al-Kindī
He was a ḥāfiẓ, painstaking in verification, highly skilled, and widely travelled. He is Abū Muḥammad Naṣr ibn Aḥmad ibn Naṣr al-Kindī al-Baghdādī, known as Nasrak, who later took up residence in Bukhārā.
He heard ḥadīth from Muḥammad ibn Bakkār ibn al-Rayyān, ʿAbd al-Aʿlā ibn Ḥammād, ʿUbayd Allāh ibn ʿUmar al-Qawārīrī, and their contemporaries.
Those who transmitted from him include the ḥāfiẓ Ibn ʿUqda, Khalaf ibn Muḥammad al-Khayyām, and others.
He collected and extracted material, compiled a Musnad, and excelled in that discipline.
Abū al-Faḍl al-Sulaymānī said: “It is said that his memorization surpassed that of Ṣāliḥ ibn Muḥammad Jazara, though he was suspected of drinking intoxicants.” (1)
I say: Very little of this man’s learning has come down to us.
He died in 293 AH.
Al-Ḥasan ibn ʿAlī (2) informed us, saying: Jaʿfar informed us, the Sīlafī informed us, Abū ʿAlī al-Bardānī informed us, Hannād al-Nasafī informed us, Muḥammad ibn Aḥmad the ḥāfiẓ narrated to us, Khalaf ibn Muḥammad narrated to us, and Nasr ibn Aḥmad al-Kindī together with Sahl ibn Shādhawayh narrated to us; they both said: Muḥammad ibn Sahl ibn ʿUthmān narrated to us, my father narrated to us, ʿĪsā Ghunjar narrated to us, from Abū Ḥamzah, from al-Aʿmash, from Ayyūb, from Muḥammad, from Abū Hurayrah
