Siyar Aʿlām al-NubalāʾShams al‑Din al‑Dhahabi

Ibn ʿAdī said, “I heard ʿAbdān remark, ‘I asked Ibn Khirāsh about the ḥadīth, mā taraknā ṣadaqa (1) (“We have left no charitable estate”). He replied, ‘False; I suspect Mālik ibn Aws (2).’”

ʿAbdān added, “He used to relate mursal reports and supply them with full chains, and mawqūf reports that he would elevate and attribute to the Prophet (3).”

I say: This was a man who stumbled and was forsaken; his learning became a calamity and his striving pure misguidance. We seek refuge in Allah from misery.

Ibn al-Munādī stated, “He died in Ramaḍān of the year 283 AH.”
