The ḥadith scholar, erudite authority, and reliable narrator: Abū Bakr ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn al-Qāsim ibn al-Faraj ibn ʿAbd al-Wāḥid al-Hāshimī al-Dimashqī, the foremost musnid of his time in Damascus.
He received narrations from: Abū Mushir al-Ghassānī, Yaḥyā ibn Ṣāliḥ al-Wuḥāẓī, Zuhayr ibn ʿAbbād, Ibrāhīm ibn Hishām ibn Yaḥyā al-Ghassānī, Hishām ibn ʿAmmār, ʿAbd Allah ibn Dhakwān, his maternal uncle Ibrāhīm ibn Ayyūb al-Ḥawrānī, and others.
Among those who transmitted from him were: Abū ʿAbd Allah ibn Marwān, Abū Bakr ibn Abī Dujānah, Abū ʿUmar ibn Faḍālah, ʿAlī ibn Abī al-ʿAqab, Abū Aḥmad ibn ʿAdī, Jumah ibn al-Qāsim, ʿAlī ibn Abī al-ʿAqab (again), Abū Aḥmad ibn al-Nāṣiḥ, al-Faḍl ibn Jaʿfar the mu’adhdhin, and many others.
Jumah said, “I heard Ibn al-Rawwās remark, ‘I heard from Abū Mushir when I was eleven years old.’” (1)
I say: I have not been able to determine the date of Ibn al-Rawwās’s death. However, Ibn ʿAdī’s journey to Syria took place in 297 AH, and he met him then (2). Ibn al-Rawwās is the transmitter of Abū Mushir’s collection.
