did not flee. The Hawāzin were accomplished archers; when we met them and charged, they broke and ran. The people then hurried toward the spoils, but the enemy faced us with their arrows and the people scattered. Hushaym narrated from Yaḥyā ibn Saʿīd, from ʿAmr ibn Saʿīd ibn al-ʿĀṣ, who said that Sayyābah ibn ʿĀṣim informed him that on the day of Ḥunayn the Messenger of Allah ﷺ declared, “I am the son of the ʿAwātik.”
Abū ʿAwānah transmitted—through Qatādah—that on one of his expeditions the Messenger of Allah ﷺ likewise proclaimed, “I am the son of the ʿAwātik.”
