—“And whoever has a single farat, O woman graced with success.”
She then said, “O Prophet of Allah! What about someone from your community who has no farat at all?”
He replied, “I am the farat of my community; they have never been struck by a calamity comparable to losing me.”
Al-Tirmidhī related this ḥadith (1), judging its isnād to be ḥasan, though its wording is somewhat unusual. He transmitted it from Naṣr ibn ʿAlī, Ziyād ibn Yaḥyā, and Aḥmad ibn Saʿīd al-Murābiṭī, from Ḥabbān, all of them from ʿAbd Rabbih, from Simāk ibn al-Walīd Abū Zumayl al-Ḥanafī. As for this ʿAbd Rabbih, Ibn Maʿīn deemed him weak, whereas Aḥmad said, “There is nothing wrong with him.”
Isḥāq ibn Ṭāriq (2) informed us; Yūsuf ibn Khalīl informed us; Nāṣir ibn Muḥammad informed us; Jaʿfar ibn ʿAbd al-Wāḥid informed us; Abū Ṭāhir Muḥammad ibn Aḥmad al-Kātib informed us; ʿAbd Allāh ibn Muḥammad Abū al-Shaykh read to us, saying: Abū Bakr ibn Abī ʿĀṣim narrated to us; ʿAmr ibn Marzūq narrated to us; from ʿImrān al-Qaṭṭān; from Qatādah; from Zurārah; from Saʿd ibn Hishām; from ʿĀʾishah, who said:
A man called Shihāb was mentioned in the presence of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, whereupon the Prophet ﷺ said, “You are Hishām.” (3) Its chain is sound.
