in my own handwriting; each day sell one booklet for a dirham and spend the proceeds.
Al-Khaṭīb (1) and several other scholars record that al-Ḥarbī died with seven days remaining of Dhū’l-Ḥijjah in the year 285 AH. His funeral was thronged with mourners; the prayer over him was led by Yūsuf the judge, author of the work al-Sunan, and his grave in Baghdad is still visited.
In the same year there also passed away Isḥāq al-Dabarī (2), the principal transmitter from ʿAbd al-Razzaq; ʿUbayd ibn ʿAbd al-Wāḥid al-Bazzār (3); and Abū al-ʿAbbās Muḥammad ibn Yazīd al-Mubarrad (4).
Umm ʿAbd Allāh (5) Zaynab bint ʿAlī al-Ṣāliḥiyya narrated to us in 693 AH; she said: Abū Muḥammad ʿAbd Allāh ibn Qudāma informed us in 611 AH; Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-Bāqī informed us; Abū al-Faḍl ibn Khayrūn informed us; Aḥmad ibn ʿAbd Allāh al-Maḥāmilī informed us; ʿUmar ibn Jaʿfar al-Khutṭulī informed us; Ibrāhīm ibn Isḥāq al-Ḥarbī informed us; Musaddad related to us; Sufyān related from al-Zuhrī, from ʿAṭāʾ ibn Yazīd, from Abū Ayyūb:
The Prophet ﷺ said, “None of you should shun his brother for more than three days: they meet, and this one turns his face away and that one turns his face away, but the better of the two is the one who initiates the greeting of peace.” (6)
