Ibn Yūnus said, “They voiced criticism of him.”
He passed away in Ramadan of the year 283 AH.
Another scholar stated, “He was among the leading Mālikī jurists.”
Abū al-ʿAbbās ibn Dilhāth al-ʿUdhri narrated: “Muḥammad ibn Nūḥ al-Iṣbahānī told us in Mecca; al-Ṭabarānī told us; al-Miqdām ibn Dāwūd told us; ʿAbd Allāh ibn Yūsuf told us, from Mālik, from Nāfiʿ, from Ibn ʿUmar in a narration traced back to the Prophet:
‘The food of the miser is a disease, and the food of the generous is a cure.’ (1)
This report is spurious; Ibn Yūsuf never transmitted it at all.
