He said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ addressed the people in the Year of the Conquest and declared:
“People! Realise that there is no pact of mutual alliance in Islam. Any alliance that existed in the Age of Ignorance is only reinforced by Islam. The believers are one hand against all others: the humblest of them may grant protection on their behalf, and the farthest of them must honour it. Their detachments share with those who stayed behind. No believer is to be killed in retaliation for a disbeliever. 8 The blood-money for a disbeliever is one-half that of a Muslim. There is to be no jalab (forcibly driven booty) and no janab (withholding of booty), and their zakāt is to be collected only in their own neighbourhoods.”
Abū al-Zinād narrated from al-Aʿraj, from Abū Hurayrah, that the Prophet ﷺ said: “Our encampment, God willing, once Allah grants victory, will be al-Khīf—the very place where they once swore together upon disbelief.” Al-Bukhārī recorded it.
Abū al-Azhar al-Nīsābūrī reported: Muḥammad ibn Sharḥabīl al-Abnāwī told us: Ibn Jurayj related to us that ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿUthmān informed him that Muḥammad ibn al-Aswad ibn Khalaf told him that his father al-Aswad attended the Prophet ﷺ while he was taking pledges from the people on the Day of the Conquest. He sat beside one of the corners of the Kaʿbah, and youngsters, elders, men, and women all came to him and pledged allegiance to Islam and to the testimony of faith.
Yūnus related on the authority of Ibn Isḥāq: Yaḥyā ibn ʿAbbād ibn ʿAbd Allāh told me, from his father, from Asmāʾ bint Abī Bakr, who said: “In the Year of the Conquest, when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ encamped at Dhū Ṭuwā, Abū Quḥāfah—whose sight had failed—said to a daughter of his who was among the youngest of his children, ‘My dear girl, take me up to Abū Qubays.’ She led him up.
