that he was anything other than an idolater. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “Your brother was killed unintentionally.” He ordered that the blood-money be paid, so Miqīs accepted it and remained with the Muslims for a time. Later he assaulted his brother’s killer, slew him, and fled to Mecca as an unbeliever.
In the year of the Conquest, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ decreed that he be executed, and a man from his own clan named Namīlah ibn ʿAbd Allāh killed him between Ṣafā and Marwah.
ʿAbd Allāh ibn Abī Bakr and Abū ʿUbaydah ibn Muḥammad ibn ʿAmmār told me that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered the death of Ibn Abī Sarḥ because he had embraced Islam and used to write down revelation for the Prophet, then apostatized and took refuge in Mecca.
Ibn Isḥāq said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded that ʿAbd Allāh ibn Khuṭl—one of the Banū Tamīm ibn Ghālib—be killed because he had been a Muslim. The Prophet had sent him out as a collector of the obligatory alms, accompanied by an Anṣārī, and he had with him a servant who was also Muslim. They halted at a certain place, and Ibn Khuṭl told the servant to slaughter a young goat and prepare a meal. He then lay down to sleep; when he awoke and found nothing prepared, he killed the servant and apostatized. He also owned a singing slave-girl and her companion who used to chant satirical verses against the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, so the Prophet ordered that they be killed along with him, for he was among those who harmed the Messenger of Allah.
Yaʿqūb al-Qummī reported: Jafar ibn Abī al-Mughīrah related to us, from Ibn Abzā, who said: When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ conquered Mecca, an elderly Ethiopian woman with grey-streaked hair came scratching her face and wailing. People said, “Messenger of Allah, we have just seen such-and-such.” He replied, “That was Nāʾilah; she has despaired of ever being worshipped in your land again.” (The chain of this report appears to be broken.)
Yūnus ibn Bukayr transmitted, from Zakarīyā, from al-Shaʿbī, from al-Ḥārith ibn Mālik—also known as Ibn Barṣāʾ—who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on the day of the Conquest declare, “From today until the Day of Resurrection, Mecca shall never again be attacked.”
