(3) Balanjar: al-Lubab vocalises the name with two short a-vowels, a silent n, and an a-vowel on the j (ba-la-n-jar). Fayruzabadi (al-Qamus) and al-Suyuti (al-Bughyah) also read the j with an a-vowel. With this pronunciation it denotes a town in Khazar territory; with a u-vowel on the j it is the name of the subject’s grandfather. The base manuscript records it with an i-vowel on the j.
