It is also reported that, on that very day, Abu Bakr said, “Messenger of Allah, in a dream I saw myself—and I saw you—as we were drawing near to Mecca. A bitch came out at us barking; but when we approached her she rolled onto her back, and suddenly milk was flowing from her teats.” The Prophet replied, “Their ferocity has vanished and their gift has come forward. They will appeal to you through the bonds of kinship, and you will certainly meet some of them. If you encounter Abu Sufyan, do not kill him.” They did in fact meet Abu Sufyan and Ḥakīm at Marr.

Al-Layth said: Khālid ibn Yazīd told me, from Saʿīd ibn Abī Hilāl, from ʿUmārah ibn Ghaziyyah, from Muḥammad ibn Ibrāhīm, from Abū Salamah, from ʿĀʾishah, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “Satirize Quraysh, for satire wounds them more than a volley of arrows.” He then sent for Ibn Rawāḥah and said, “Satirize them.” When Ibn Rawāḥah did so the Prophet was not satisfied, so he sent for Kaʿb ibn Mālik, and then he sent for Ḥassān ibn Thābit.
