From Abu Juḥayfah, who said:
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “As for me, I do not eat while reclining.” (1)
I read this report to ʿAbd al-Ḥāfiẓ ibn Badrān (2). He told us that Abu Muhammad ibn Qudāmah told him; Muhammad ibn al-Ḥusayn al-Ḥājib told us; Ṭarrād ibn Muhammad told us; Ibn Ḥasnūn related to us; Muhammad ibn ʿAmr al-Razzāz related to us; ʿAbd al-Malik ibn Muhammad related to us; and Yaḥyā ibn Ṭalḥah dictated it to us in the year 206 AH, saying: “I heard Saʿīd ibn Jumhān narrate from Safīnah, who said: The Prophet ﷺ declared, ‘Help him mount, for he is Safīnah (a “ship”).’” (3)
This is a fair hadith from the elevated chains; in fact, it is the highest-isnād report that has reached Abu Qilābah.
It is said that while Abu Qilābah’s mother was pregnant with him she dreamed that she had given birth to a hoopoe. A dream-interpreter told her, “If your vision is true, you will bear a son who will devote himself to abundant prayer.” (4)
105 – Raghīf al-Tamīmī, Aḥmad ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn al-Qāsim
The Imām, the ḥāfiẓ, Abū Bakr Aḥmad ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn al-Qāsim al-Tamīmī, a bookseller from Basra, nicknamed “Raghīf.”
He heard hadith from ʿUbayd Allāh ibn Muʿādh and Ṣāliḥ ibn Ḥātim ibn Wardān.
Among those who transmitted from him are Muḥammad ibn Makhlad and Abū Saʿīd ibn al-Aʿrābī.
