Abū al-Ḥasan al-Dāraquṭnī said, “He was one of the dependable ḥadīth masters.”
I add: He passed away in ʿUkbarā, in Jumādā al-Ūlā of the year 279 AH, may Allah have mercy on him.
Aḥmad ibn Hibat Allah (1) informed us; al-Qāsim ibn Abī Saʿd related to us; Abū al-Asʿad al-Qushayrī told us; ʿAbd al-Ḥamīd ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān transmitted to us—
—and Aḥmad also related to us from Ibn al-Samʿānī, who said: ʿAbd Allah ibn al-Farāwī informed us; ʿUthmān ibn Muḥammad told us; they both said:
Abū Nuʿaym al-Mihrajānī (2) informed us; Abū ʿAwānah, the ḥadīth master, narrated to us; Abū al-Aḥwaṣ, the judge of ʿUkbarā, together with Muḥammad ibn Yaḥyā, related to us; they said:
al-Ḥasan ibn al-Rabīʿ narrated to us; Ibn Idrīs reported to us; Ḥuṣayn narrated from Ḥabīb ibn Abī Thābit, from Ibn ʿAbbās who said:
A Bedouin came and said, “O Messenger of Allah, I have come to you from a people for whom the shepherd lays up no provisions and no stud camel even stirs for them.”
The Prophet ascended the pulpit, praised Allah, and then supplicated:
“O Allah, send us rain that rescues, abundant, life-giving, satisfying, widespread, copious, swift and not delayed.”
Then he descended. After that, everyone who approached him from any direction would say, “We have been given life.”
Ibn Mājah (4) recorded this ḥadīth through the narration of Abū al-Aḥwaṣ.
