A number of his higher-level isnāds have reached me, and Abū ʿAwānah also narrated from him in his Ṣaḥīḥ.
ʿIzz al-Dīn Ismāʿīl ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-Mardāwī (1) informed us; Imam ʿAbd Allāh ibn Aḥmad transmitted to us in the year 616 AH; Hibat Allāh ibn al-Ḥasan al-Daqqāq informed us; ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAlī al-Daqqāq informed us; Abū l-Ḥusayn ibn Bishrān informed us; Abū Jaʿfar Muḥammad ibn ʿAmr al-Razzāz informed us; ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Muḥammad ibn Manṣūr related to us; Yaḥyā ibn Saʿīd al-Qaṭṭān narrated to us; Sulaymān al-Taymī narrated, from Abū l-ʿAlāʾ—I think it was from Muṭarrif—from ʿImrān ibn Ḥuṣayn:
The Prophet—peace and blessings be upon him—said to him, or perhaps to someone else,
“Have you observed any fasts during the closing days of this month?”
He replied, “No.”
The Prophet said, “When the people break the fast, or when you have broken it, then fast two days.” (2)

= Ibn Hajar. In the printed editions of Tarikh Baghdad (10/273) and Mizan al-Iʿtidal (2/586) the name is mis-read as “Karyzan.”

(2) The chain of transmission is weak because the transmitter ʿAbd al-Rahman ibn Muhammad is unreliable. It is, however, supported by other routes: Muslim (1161/200), Book of Fasting, “Chapter: Fasting the last days (sarar) of Shaʿban,” relates it through Abu Bakr ibn Abi Shaybah → Yazid ibn Harun → al-Jariri → Abu l-ʿAla with the same chain. Al-Bukhari (4/200), Book of Fasting, “Chapter: Fasting at the end of the month,” records it by two routes from Ghaylan ibn Jarir → Mutarrif → ʿImran ibn Husayn, in which the Prophet ﷺ asked, while ʿImran was listening: “O So-and-so, have you fasted the sarar of this month…?” Sarar denotes the last days of the month.
Muslim likewise transmits it (1161), Book of Fasting, “Chapter: Recommending the fast of three days each month,” through Ghaylan ibn Jarir → Mutarrif → ʿImran ibn Husayn with the wording: “Have you fasted from the surra of this month…?” Here surra means the middle of the month. He also reports it (1161/199) through Hudhab ibn Khalid → Hammad ibn Salamah → Thabit → Mutarrif → ʿImran with the wording: “Have you fasted from the sarar of Shaʿban…?”
