he narrated to us—Abū Zurʿah al-Rāzī, who said: “Yaḥyā ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Bukayr related to us; Yaʿqūb ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān related to us, from Mūsā ibn ʿUqbah, from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Dīnār, from Ibn ʿUmar, who said:
‘Among the supplications of the Prophet ﷺ was: O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the withdrawal of Your favor, the loss of the well-being You have granted, the sudden onset of Your punishment, and from all that brings about Your wrath.’”
Muslim recorded this tradition (1) through Abū Zurʿah—our chain meets his but with higher precedence. al-Ṭabarānī transmitted it through Abū al-Zinbiʿ from Ibn Bukayr, and Abū Dāwūd narrated it through Muḥammad ibn ʿAwn, from ʿAbd al-Ghaffār ibn Dāwūd, from Yaʿqūb, in like manner.
Abū Zakariyyā Yaḥyā ibn Abī Manṣūr (2) informed us in his written work; ʿAbd al-Qādir ibn ʿAbd Allāh, the ḥāfiẓ, informed us; Masʿūd ibn al-Ḥasan in Isfahān narrated to us; ʿAbd al-Wahhāb ibn Muḥammad ibn Isḥāq al-ʿAbdī informed us; my father informed us; Muḥammad ibn al-Ḥusayn al-Qaṭṭān narrated to us; Abū Zurʿah ʿUbayd Allāh ibn ʿAbd al-Karīm narrated to us; Saʿīd ibn Muḥammad al-Jarmī narrated to us; Abū ʿUbaydah ʿAbd al-Wāḥid ibn Wāṣil narrated to us; Muḥammad ibn Thābit al-Bunānī narrated to us; from ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn al-Ḥārith ibn Nawfal, from his father, from Ibn ʿAbbās, who said:
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “The prophets will have pulpits of gold upon which they will sit, while my pulpit shall remain unused.”
—or he said—“I shall not sit upon it as I stand before my Lord, Mighty and Exalted, fearing that I might be taken into Paradise while my community is left behind. Then I will say, ‘My Lord, my community, my community!’ and Allah, Exalted is He, will say, ‘And what do you wish Me to do with your community?’ I will say, ‘My Lord! …’”
