and Muḥammad ibn ʿAlī ibn ʿUmar al-Mudhakkir (1), and others.
Al-Ḥākim said: I asked Muḥammad ibn Ṣāliḥ ibn Hāniʾ, “Why did you not write anything from Sahl?”
He replied, “People were prevented from listening to him. (2)”
I also heard Ibn al-Akhram say, “We used to frequent the gatherings of Ibrāhīm ibn ʿAbdullāh al-Saʿdī while Sahl ibn ʿAmmār lay abandoned in his alley, and we would not approach him. (3)”
It is likewise reported from Ibrāhīm al-Saʿdī that he charged Sahl with unreliability.
Al-Ḥākim added, “There is disagreement concerning his integrity.”
He died in 267 AH.
