His brother:
16 – Abū Jaʿfar Muḥammad ibn ʿAlī al-Kūfī *
A ḥadith scholar of proven reliability, Muḥammad ibn ʿAlī ibn ʿAffān al-ʿĀmirī, from Kūfa, a Qurʾān reciter.
He studied recitation under ʿUbayd Allāh ibn Mūsā.
He transmitted from (1) al-Ḥasan ibn ʿAṭiyya and others.
Those who narrated from him include Ibn ʿUqda, ʿAlī ibn Kās the judge, Ibn al-Zubayr al-Qurashī, and others.
He died in Ṣafar, 277 AH.
Al-Dāraqutnī declared him trustworthy.
With the same chain just cited, reaching ʿAlī ibn Muḥammad al-Qurashī, Abū Muḥammad al-Ḥasan and Abū Jaʿfar Muḥammad—the two sons of ʿAlī ibn ʿAffān—reported to us; they said:
Al-Ḥasan ibn ʿAṭiyya al-Qurashī narrated to us, from al-Ḥasan ibn Ṣāliḥ: I heard ʿAbd Allāh ibn Dīnār say, “I heard Ibn ʿUmar say:
‘The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade the sale of walāʾ (post-manumission patronage) and its transfer as a gift.’” (2)
