And al-Dāraquṭnī said: “Trustworthy.”
Abū Aḥmad ibn ʿAdī stated: “I heard Manṣūr the jurist say, ‘I never met any of the shaykhs whom I longed to resemble—in merit, I mean—except three men; the first of them is Muḥammad ibn Ḥammād al-Tihrānī.’ (1)
I say: al-Tihrānī died in ʿAsqalān in the year 271 AH (2), in the month of Rabīʿ al-Ākhir, and he was a little over eighty years old.
I read before ʿUmar ibn ʿAbd al-Munʿim: ʿAbd al-Ṣamad ibn Muḥammad informed you in my presence; ʿAlī ibn al-Musallam informed us; Ibn Ṭalāb informed us; Ibn Jumayʿ informed us; ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAlī, the imam of the congregational mosque in Yāfā, narrated to us; Muḥammad ibn Ḥammād al-Tihrānī narrated to us; ʿAbd al-Razzaq narrated to us; Maʿmar informed us, from Ismāʿīl ibn Umayyah, from Abū Salamah ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, from Abū Saʿīd al-Khuḍrī, who said:
“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was observing iʿtikāf in the mosque. While he was in his tent he heard people reciting aloud, so he lifted the curtain and said, ‘When one of you is privately conversing with his Lord, none of you should raise his voice over another’s in the recitation,’ or he said, ‘in the prayer.’” (3)
