al-Faḍl ibn Jaʿfar heard ḥadith from Yazīd ibn Hārūn, Ḥajjāj ibn Muḥammad, and several others. Among those who narrated from him are al-Tirmidhī, the judge al-Maḥāmilī, and a group of scholars. He was trustworthy (1). He died in 252 AH. He was known by the kunya Abū Sahl.
244 – Their brother:
al-ʿAbbās ibn Abī Ṭālib, Abū Muḥammad, was likewise considered reliable. He heard ḥadith from Shabābah, Yaḥyā ibn Abī Bukayr, and Hawdhah. Those who transmitted from him include Ibn Mājah, Ibn Abī Dāwūd, ʿUmar ibn Bujayr, and ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Abī Ḥātim. He passed away in 258 AH (2).

(2) Ibn Abi Hatim reports in Al-Jarh wa-l-Taʿdil (6/215): “I heard from him together with my father in Baghdad; he is trustworthy. My father was asked about him and replied: ‘Truthful.’”
Ibn Hajar adds in Tahdhib al-Tahdhib (5/115) that Ibn Hibban listed him in al-Thiqat.
ʿAbd Allah b. Ishaq al-Madaʾini said: “ʿAbbas b. Abi Talib narrated to us, and he was reliable.” Maslama likewise notes: “A Baghdadi, trustworthy.”
٢٤٣ - الفَضْلُ بنُ جَعْفَرٍ * (ت)
سَمِعَ: يَزِيْدَ بنَ هَارُوْنَ، وَحَجَّاج بن مُحَمَّدٍ، وَعِدَّةً.
وَعَنْهُ: الترمذَيُّ، وَالقَاضِي المَحَامِلِيُّ، وَجَمَاعَة.
ثِقَة (١) .
تُوُفِّيَ: سَنَةَ اثْنَتَيْنِ وَخَمْسِيْنَ وَمائَتَيْنِ.
يُكْنَى أَبَا سهل.

ثِقَةٌ.
سَمِعَ: شَبَابَة، وَيَحْيَى بن أَبِي بُكَيْر، وَهَوْذَة.
وَعَنْهُ: ابْنُ مَاجَهْ، وَابْنُ أَبِي دَاوُدَ، وَعُمَر بن بُجَيْر، وَعَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بنُ أَبِي حَاتِمٍ.
تُوُفِّيَ: سَنَةَ ثَمَانٍ وَخَمْسِيْنَ وَمائَتَيْنِ (٢) .

وقال عبد الله بن إسحاق المدائني: حدثنا عباس بن أبي طالب، وكان ثقة: وقال مسلمة: بغدادي ثقة.
