Ibn al-Yūnīnī informed us; Ibn Ṣabbāḥ informed us; Ibn Rifāʿah informed us; al-Khilaʿī informed us; Ibn al-Naḥḥās informed us; Muḥammad ibn Jaʿfar ibn Durrān narrated to us, saying: Muḥammad ibn Khālid ibn Yazīd narrated to us in Mecca, “I heard ʿAṭiyyah say:
O ʿAṭiyyah son of Baqiyyah,
It is as though death has already come to you—
whether morning or evening;

and keep away from sin.
Remember Allah with piety,
and let intention guide every word.
My father is the shaykh of mankind;
so write from me, my sons,
on pristine scrolls.
