He died in Rabiʿ al-Akhir of the year 269 AH.
Al-ʿImād ʿAbd al-Ḥāfiẓ and Yūsuf ibn Ghāliya informed us, saying: Mūsā ibn ʿAbd al-Qādir informed us; Saʿīd ibn Aḥmad informed us; ʿAlī ibn Aḥmad informed us; Abū Ṭāhir al-Mukhlis related to us; Yaḥyā ibn Muḥammad narrated to us; Ibrāhīm ibn Munqidh narrated to us in Egypt; Ibn Wahb narrated to us, from Makhramah ibn Bukayr, from his father, who said: I heard Yūnus ibn Yūsuf, from Ibn al-Musayyab, who said:
ʿĀʾishah said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “There is no day on which Allah frees more servants from Hell than the Day of ʿArafah. He draws near, then boasts of them to the angels.” (1)

In that same year there died: Aḥmad ibn ʿAbd al-Majīd al-Hārithī, Ḥudhayfah ibn Ghiyāth al-Isfahānī, ʿAbd Allah ibn Ḥammād al-Āmulī, Abū Farwah Yazīd ibn Muḥammad al-Ruhāwī, and Abū Ḥamzah al-Baghdādī the ascetic.
