145 – Muḥammad ibn Ishkāb, Abū Jaʿfar al-Baghdādī * (B, D, N)
A ḥāfiẓ, leading imām, and reliable authority: Abū Jaʿfar Muḥammad ibn al-Ḥusayn ibn Ibrāhīm ibn al-Ḥurr ibn Zuʿlān al-Baghdādī, the brother of ʿAlī. Their father bore the nickname Ishkāb. Muḥammad was the younger of the two and the one with the stronger memory.
He heard ḥadith from ʿAbd al-Ṣamad ibn ʿAbd al-Wārith, Abū al-Naḍr Hāshim ibn al-Qāsim, Ismāʿīl ibn ʿUmar, and others of their rank.
Among those who narrated from him were al-Bukhārī, Abū Dāwūd, al-Nasāʾī, Ibn Ṣāʿid, the judge al-Maḥāmilī, Muḥammad ibn Makhlad, and many more.
Abū Ḥātim said, “He is truthful.” ⦗1⦘
Some have stated that Muḥammad was born in 181 AH and died on the day of ʿĀshūrāʾ in 261 AH.
In that same year his brother passed away:

A few months later he followed him. He was Abū al-Ḥasan: a hadith scholar who was distinguished, upright, and precise.
