Ibn Ḥibbān—and others as well—declared him reliable.
Al-Ḥusayn al-Qabbānī said, “Bishr died in Rajab of the year 238 AH.”
Zakariyyā ibn Dallawayh said, “He passed away in the year 237 AH.”
140 – The Perfumer, Muḥammad ibn Saʿīd ibn Ghālib * (Ibn Mājah)
He was an imam, a ḥadīth scholar, and a truthful authority. He is Abū Yaḥyā Muḥammad ibn Saʿīd ibn Ghālib, the blind Baghdadi perfumer.
He transmitted ḥadīths from Sufyān ibn ʿUyaynah, Ismāʿīl ibn ʿUlayyah, ʿUbaydah ibn Ḥumayd, Muʿādh ibn Muʿādh, Yaḥyā ibn Ādam, al-Shāfiʿī, Abū Usāmah, and many others.
Among those who related from him were: Ibn Mājah—in his Tafsīr—, Abū al-ʿAbbās ibn Surayj, ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿUrwah, Ibn Abī Dāwūd, ʿAbd Allāh ibn Muḥammad al-Ḥāmiḍ, al-Maḥāmilī, Ibn Makhlad, Ibn Abī Ḥātim, Abū Saʿīd ibn al-Aʿrābī, and several others.
Ibn Abī Ḥātim said, “Reliable, truthful.” (1)
Ibn Makhlad stated that he died in Shawwāl of the year 261 AH.
I (the author) say: I possess his ḥadīths with a high chain; they were cited previously in the biography of Mālik.
