Shurayḥ ibn ʿUbayd, who said that he heard al-Zubayr ibn al-Walīd relate from Ibn ʿUmar:
“Whenever the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) set out on a campaign or a journey and night overtook him, he would say:
‘O earth, my Lord and your Lord is Allah. I seek refuge in Allah from your evil, the evil that is within you, and the evil that moves upon you. I seek refuge in Allah from the evil of every lion, every black beast, every serpent and scorpion, from the inhabitants of this land, and from the evil of every parent and whatever it begets.’” (1)
125 – Muḥammad ibn Hārūn, Abū Jaʿfar al-Mukharrimī, known as al-Fallas *
It is also said that his name was Muḥammad ibn Aḥmad ibn Hārūn, Abū Jaʿfar, al-Mukharrimī, al-Fallas, nicknamed Shayṭā.
A reliable ḥāfiẓ of meticulous accuracy, as stated by Ibn Abī Ḥātim. (2)
He heard ḥadith from Abū Nuʿaym and Sulaymān ibn Ḥarb.
Among those who narrated from him are al-Maḥāmilī, Ibn Makhlad, and Ibn Abī Ḥātim.
He passed away in Nahrawān (3) in 265 AH.
= Al-Samani states that this nisba refers to Taraqf, and he is inclined to think it was one of the districts of Wasit; God knows best.
Al-Abbas al-Taraqfi is Abu Muhammad al-Abbas b. Abd Allah b. Abi Isa. He was reliable, truthful, trustworthy, a memoriser, and well-versed in hadith.
He died in 267 or 268 AH.

(1) Ahmad, 2/132 and 3/124, through the route of Abu al-Mughira; and Abu Dawud (2603) through the route of Baqiyya, both from Safwan with this chain. No one apart from Ibn Hibban declared al-Zubayr b. al-Walid reliable, yet al-Hakim authenticated the hadith (2/100), al-Dhahabi concurred, and Ibn Hajar considered it sound in his Amali al-Adhkar, as cited by Ibn Allan in Al-Futuhat al-Rabbaniyya 5/164.

(3) Yaqut writes that the word is generally pronounced with a kasra on the nun. It denotes a wide region on the eastern side between Baghdad and Wasit, whose upper limit is contiguous with Baghdad. A famous battle between the Commander of the Faithful Ali b. Abi Talib and the Khawarij took place there.
