in agreement (1) with al-Bukhārī.
I recited it before ʿAlī ibn Muḥammad the jurist together with a group who had heard it from ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿUmar. Saʿīd ibn Aḥmad reported it to us in person when I was four years old. Abū Naṣr al-Zaynabī informed us; he said: Abū Bakr Muḥammad ibn ʿUmar narrated to us; he said: Yaḥyā ibn Muḥammad narrated to us; he said: Muḥammad ibn ʿUthmān ibn Karāmah narrated to us; he said: Qabīṣah narrated to us; he said: Sufyān narrated to us, from Manṣūr, from Ibrāhīm, from ʿAlqamah, who said:
“Kufa was rocked by an earthquake in the time of ʿAbd Allāh—may Allah be pleased with him—so he said, ‘In the days of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ we used to regard such signs as blessings, whereas you treat them as a threat.’”
Its chain of transmission is good (2), yet it has a hidden flaw: through the same isnād back to Yaḥyā he said, “Ibrāhīm ibn Saʿīd al-Jawharī and Muḥammad ibn Isḥāq narrated it to us; they said: Qabīṣah narrated to us, from Sufyān, from al-Aʿmash, with his chain, to similar effect.”
