This ḥadith is sound, singular, and unique; it meets the criteria of the Two Shaykhs (al-Bukhārī and Muslim), yet only Muslim actually recorded it.
Abū ʿĪsā also transmitted it in his Jāmiʿ; both he and Muslim relate it from Abū Muḥammad al-Dārimī, so the two strands converge while retaining a higher chain.
Al-Dārimī used to be sought out specifically for this report, for he alone possessed it. He said: “People would knock on my door while I was in Baghdad. ‘Who is it?’ I would ask. They would reply, ‘Yaḥyā ibn Ḥassān—“What an excellent condiment vinegar is.”’ ”
With this same isnād, from ʿĀʾishah:
The Prophet ﷺ said, “A household that has dates will never go hungry.” (1)
Muslim and al-Tirmidhī both recorded it through al-Dārimī, and the chain up to al-Dārimī is identical except for Ibn al-Ḥubūbī.
Abū Nuʿaym informed us; Sufyān narrated to us, from Ayyūb, Ismāʿīl ibn Umayyah, ʿUbayd Allāh, and Mūsā ibn ʿUqbah, from Nāfiʿ, from Ibn ʿUmar, who said:
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered the hand to be cut off for a small shield worth three dirhams. (2)
Muslim also transmitted it, from al-Dārimī.
