Ahmad b. Muhammad b. Muhraz related—on the authority of Yahya b. Maʿin—that he said: “He is trustworthy; there is nothing objectionable about him.” (1)
Muhammad b. Ahmad al-Rawwas reported: “I heard Mahmud b. Khidash say, ‘I have never in my life sold anything, nor have I ever purchased anything.’” (2)
Al-Sarrāj observed: “It would appear that he was born in 160 AH.”
Yaʿqub al-Dawraqī said: “I was among those who washed his body. Later I saw him in a dream and asked, ‘O Abu Muhammad, how has your Lord treated you?’ He replied, ‘He has forgiven me—and all who followed me.’ I said, ‘I am one of your followers.’ Thereupon he took a slip of paper from his sleeve on which was written: Yaʿqub b. Ibrahim b. Kathir.” (3)
Al-Sarrāj further stated: “He died in 250 AH.”
I say: one of his narrations is transmitted with a notably short chain in the collection of Sibt al-Silafi. (4)
