Muhammad ibn Salamah transmitted—through Ibn Isḥāq—from ʿAmr ibn Maymūn, who said: I heard Abū Ḥāḍir al-Ḥaḍramī narrating to my father, Maymūn ibn Mihrān: “I set out for ʿumrah in the year Ibn al-Zubayr was besieged, and some men of my clan entrusted me with hady (sacrificial animals). When we reached the Syrian forces they refused to let us enter the Sanctuary, so I slaughtered the hady where I was, ended my consecration, and returned. The following year I went out again to complete my ʿumrah. I came to Ibn ʿAbbās and asked him about it. He replied, ‘Replace the hady, for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered his Companions to replace the sacrificial animals they had slaughtered in the year of al-Ḥudaybiyah when they performed the compensatory ʿumrah.’” Yūnus added to Ibn Isḥāq’s report: “When camels became scarce, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ permitted them to offer cattle instead.”
Al-Wāqidī said: Ghānim ibn Abī Ghānim related to me—from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Dīnār—from Ibn ʿUmar, who said: “On that settlement (al-qaḍiyyah) the Prophet ﷺ drove sixty sacrificial camels.” He added: “The Messenger of Allah ﷺ encamped at Marr al-Ẓahrān and sent the weapons on ahead to the valley of Yaʾjj, a spot from which one can see the boundary stones of the Sanctuary. Quraysh grew fearful; they climbed the mountain peaks and left Mecca empty.”
Muʿammar reported—from al-Zuhrī—from Anas—that when the Prophet ﷺ entered Mecca for the compensatory ʿumrah, Ibn Rawāḥah walked in front of him reciting:
