Judge Abū Muḥammad ibn Zabr said, “Al-Haytham ibn Sahl narrated to us; al-Naḍr ibn ʿAmr al-Ḥanafī narrated to us; Anas ibn Mālik narrated to us,” and he then related a report.
I say: No one knows who this al-Naḍr is.
Al-Haytham himself said, “I was born in the year 152 AH.” (1)
One of his elevated isnāds has reached us in the Khilaʿiyyāt collection (2), and another appears in Ibn Jumayʿ’s Muʿjam.
He died sometime after 260 AH.
Ismāʿīl ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān and ʿAlī ibn Muḥammad informed us, saying:
Al-Ḥasan ibn Yaḥyā informed us; Ibn Rifāʿah informed us; Abū al-Ḥasan al-Khilaʿī informed us; ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn ʿUmar informed us; Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad ibn Ziyād told us; Al-Haytham ibn Sahl told us; Ḥammād ibn Zayd told us; Ayyūb narrated from Nāfiʿ, from Ibn ʿUmar, who said:
ʿUmar said, “Messenger of Allah, I have obtained a piece of property in Khaybar; never have I acquired any wealth dearer to me than it.”
The Prophet replied, “If you wish, give it in charity; if you wish, keep its principal.”
So ʿUmar endowed it for the poor, the needy, and the wayfarer. There is no sin upon the trustee if he eats from it or feeds a friend, provided that he does not seek thereby to enrich himself or to accumulate property. (3)
