Al-Nasa’i said, “Bundar is upright; there is nothing wrong with him.”
Al-Khatib related: Abu ‘Ali ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn Muhammad ibn Ahmad ibn Fadalah, the ḥāfiẓ of Rayy, informed us; he said, “I heard Yusuf ibn Muhammad al-Tusi say: I heard Muhammad ibn al-Musayyab say: I heard Bundar say:
‘They asked me to narrate hadith when I was eighteen years old, but I felt too shy to do so inside the city. So I took them out to the orchard, offered them fresh dates, and then narrated to them. (1)’
‘Abd Allah ibn Muhammad ibn Yunus al-Simnani said, “The people of Basra used to place Abu Musa ahead of Bundar, whereas visitors from other towns preferred Bundar to Abu Musa.”
‘Abd Allah ibn Muhammad ibn Sayyar said, “I heard Abu Hafs al-Fallas swear that Bundar lies in what he transmits from Yahya. (2)”
Ibn Sayyar also said, “I heard Abu Musa—who had compiled the hadith of Dawud ibn Abi Hind, while Bundar had not—say, ‘Some among us, if they could steal Dawud’s hadith collection, would do so,’ meaning Bundar by that. (3)”
‘Abd Allah ibn ‘Ali ibn al-Madini said: “I heard my father, and I asked him about a narration that Bundar reported from Ibn Mahdi, from Abu Bakr ibn ‘Ayyash, from ‘Asim, from Zur, from ‘Abd Allah, from the Prophet ﷺ: ‘Take the pre-dawn meal.’ (4) He said, ‘That is a lie,’”}
