The expedition led by ʿUmar (may Allah be pleased with him) to Turabah in the Hawāzin hinterland:

Al-Wāqidī said: Usāmah ibn Zayd ibn Aslam related to me from Abū Bakr ʿUmar ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent ʿUmar to Turabah, in the rear territory of Hawāzin, at the head of thirty mounted men, and he set out with a guide. They travelled by night and concealed themselves by day. When news of them reached Hawāzin, the tribe fled. ʿUmar reached their encampments but found no one, so he turned back toward Madinah, taking the upland (Najd) route.

When they came to al-Jadd, the guide said to ʿUmar, “Shall I lead you to another group I left behind from Khathʿam? They are on the move because drought has ravaged their land.” ʿUmar replied, “The Messenger of Allah ﷺ did not command me regarding them.” He therefore returned to Madinah. This occurred in Shaʿbān.

The expedition led by Bashīr ibn Saʿd:

Al-Wāqidī said: ʿAbd Allāh ibn al-Ḥārith ibn al-Faḍl told me, from his father, who said: The Prophet ﷺ dispatched Bashīr ibn Saʿd with thirty men against the clan of Murrah at Fadak. He set out, encountered some shepherds, and drove off their sheep and camels toward Madinah. A pursuing force caught up with him at night and kept shooting arrows at them until the arrows of Bashīr’s men were exhausted. They wounded his companions, some of whom broke and fled. Bashīr fought fiercely until both his ankles were struck; some even said he had been killed. The enemy recovered their livestock, while Bashīr, gravely injured, dragged himself to Fadak. He stayed with a Jewish man there until his wounds healed, then returned to Madinah.
