Another narration states that the incident occurred on the road to al-Hudaybiyah. It was transmitted by Shuʿbah through Jāmiʿ ibn Shaddād, from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Abī ʿAlqamah, from Ibn Masʿūd, and it is possible that they overslept on two separate occasions.
Zāfir ibn Sulaymān also reported it from Shuʿbah, noting that it took place during the campaign of Tabūk.
Accounts of oversleeping and missing the prayer likewise come from ʿImrān ibn Ḥuṣayn and Abū Qatādah al-Anṣārī; both reports are authentic, recorded by Muslim, and each is lengthy.
ʿImārah ibn ʿAkrimah related from ʿĀʾishah that when we conquered Khaybar we said, “Now at last we shall have our fill of dates.”
Ibn Wahb said: Yūnus told us, from Ibn Shihāb, from Anas, who said: When the Emigrants arrived in Madinah they possessed nothing, whereas the Helpers were people of farmland. The Helpers therefore shared their orchards with the Emigrants, pledging to give them one-half of the annual yield while shouldering the work and the costs. The mother of Anas—Umm Sulaym—had given the Messenger of Allah ﷺ some of her date palms, and he in turn assigned them to Umm Ayman, his freedwoman and the mother of Usāmah ibn Zayd. Anas informed me that when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had finished fighting the people of Khaybar and returned to Madinah, the Emigrants returned the property to the Helpers, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ restored my mother’s palms to her and granted Umm Ayman other palms from his own garden in their stead.
Ibn Shihāb added: Umm Ayman—the mother of Usāmah ibn Zayd—had been a servant of ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib and was of Abyssinian origin. When Āminah gave birth to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, Umm Ayman nursed and cared for him until he grew up; he then set her free and later married her to Zayd ibn Ḥārithah. She died five months after the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.
