and al-Wakīl, Ismāʿīl ibn Muḥammad al-Ṣaffār, and many others.
ʿAbd Allāh ibn Aḥmad said: Ibn Maʿīn asked me, “Have you written from that teacher who is in al-Murabbaʿah?” I replied, “Yes. Do you mean al-Ḥasan ibn ʿArafah?” He said, “Yes. He narrates from Mubārak ibn Saʿīd, and he is reliable.”
ʿAbd Allāh added, “He used to visit my father regularly.”
ʿAbd Allāh ibn al-Daraqī reported from Ibn Maʿīn that he said, “There is nothing wrong with him; go to him.”
Ibn Abī Ḥātim said: “Trustworthy. I heard from him together with my father in Sāmarrāʾ, and when my father was asked about him he said, ‘Trustworthy.’”
Al-Nasāʾī said: “There is no harm in him,” and al-Nasāʾī actually transmitted from him through an intermediary.
Muḥammad ibn al-Musayyab al-Arghiyānī (1) said, “I heard al-Ḥasan ibn ʿArafah say, ‘Five centuries have written from me.’”
I say: He means five strata: the first is Ibn Abī Ḥātim, the second Ibn Abī al-Dunyā, the third the stratum of Ibn Khuzaymah, the fourth the stratum of al-Maḥāmilī, and the fifth al-Ṣaffār.
Ibn Abī Ḥātim also said: “Al-Ḥasan ibn ʿArafah lived for 110 years, and he had ten sons whom he named after the Ten Companions.” (2)
