Khalid.
ʿAbbād ibn al-ʿAwwām narrated—through Sufyān ibn Ḥusayn, from al-Zuhrī, from Abū Salamah and Ibn al-Musayyib, from Abū Hurayrah—that a Jewish woman presented the Messenger of Allah ﷺ with a poisoned sheep. He said, “Hold back, for it is poisoned,” and then asked her, “What made you do this?” She replied, “I wanted to find out: if you are a prophet, Allah will inform you; but if you are an imposter, I will spare the people from you.” The Messenger of Allah ﷺ pardoned her.
A report with a similar meaning is transmitted from Jābir as well.
Maʿmar related—from al-Zuhrī, from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Kaʿb—that a Jewish woman in Khaybar offered the Prophet ﷺ a roasted sheep. He ate from it, and so did others, then he said, “Stop.” He asked her, “Did you poison this sheep?” She said, “Who told you that?” He replied, “This bone.” She admitted, “Yes.” He then had cupping performed on the area between his shoulders and ordered his Companions to do the same; some of them died from the poison.
Al-Zuhrī said: She later embraced Islam, so he left her alone.
Abū Dāwūd, in his Sunan, recorded—from Sulaymān al-Mahri, from Ibn Wahb, from Yūnus, from Ibn Shihāb—that Jābir used to recount the story of a Jewish woman who poisoned the sheep she gave to the Prophet ﷺ … and so on.
Khalid al-Ṭaḥḥān reported—from Muḥammad ibn ʿAmr, from Abū Salamah—that a Jewish woman in Khaybar offered the Prophet ﷺ a sheep, in wording similar to Jābir’s report. Bishr ibn al-Barāʾ ibn Maʿrūr died from it, and the Prophet ﷺ ordered that she be executed, so she was killed.
It is possible that he did not have her killed at first, but when Bishr died, he ordered her execution.
Bishr was present at the Pledge of al-ʿAqabah and at the Battle of Badr, and his father was one of the twelve deputies on the night of the Pledge. He is the Companion about whom the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “O Banū Salamah, who is your leader?” They answered, “Al-Jadd ibn Qays, though he is rather stingy.” He replied, “And what illness is more destructive than stinginess? Rather, your leader is the fair-skinned, curly-haired Bishr ibn…"
