Among those who narrated from him were his nephew—the meticulous ḥāfiẓ Abū Bakr Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad ibn al-Sarī ibn Yaḥyā al-Kūfī, widely known as Ibn Abī Dāram—together with Muḥammad ibn ʿUmar ibn Yaḥyā al-ʿAlawī, the judge Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn al-Ḥasan al-Juʿfī al-Kūfī, and a number of others. He was truthful.
The ḥāfiẓ Muḥammad ibn Aḥmad ibn Ḥammād ibn Sufyān al-Kūfī recorded that he died in the year 331 AH.
With regard to Hannād the Elder, we have obtained no loftier (i.e., shorter-chained) report from him except by way of an ijāza in the isnād—and so we ask Allah for knowledge that is beneficial and brings us near to Him.
Abū al-Faḍl Aḥmad ibn Hibat Allāh ibn Tāj al-Umanaʾ related to us in 696 AH, through Zaynab bint ʿAbd al-Raḥmān and al-Qāsim ibn Abī Saʿd, who said:
Wajīh ibn Ṭāhir informed us—and likewise Aḥmad, from Zaynab; ʿAbd al-Munʿim ibn ʿAbd al-Karīm informed us—and likewise Aḥmad, from ʿAbd al-Raḥīm ibn ʿAbd al-Karīm ibn Muḥammad; Abū al-Asʿad Hibat al-Raḥmān ibn ʿAbd al-Wāḥid informed us. They said:
Abū al-Qāsim al-Qushayrī informed us; Abū al-Ḥusayn al-Khaffāf informed us; Abū al-ʿAbbās al-Sarrāj informed us: Hannād related to us; Wakīʿ related to us, from Shuʿbah, from ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz ibn Ṣuhayb, from Anas, who said:
Whenever the Messenger of Allah ﷺ entered the lavatory he would say: “O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the male and female devils.” (1)
