He used to live in Qatiʿat al-Rabiʿ (1).
Abū Ḥafṣ al-Fallas mentioned him and said, “He is nothing.”
I say: This is the disparagement of peers, which carries no weight, for the man is reliable and a sound authority.
He died at the end of the year 235 AH.
Ahmad ibn Hibat Allah narrated to us, from al-Muʾayyad ibn Muḥammad; Muḥammad ibn al-Faḍl; ʿAbd al-Ghāfir ibn Muḥammad; Ibn ʿAmrawayh al-Julūdī; Ibrāhīm ibn Sufyān; Muslim ibn al-Ḥajjāj; and also Zuhayr, Muḥammad ibn Ḥātim, and ʿAbd ibn Ḥumayd. ʿAbd said, “He related it to me,” while the other two said, “He related it to us,” from Yaʿqūb ibn Ibrāhīm, who informed us—[reporting] the nephew of Ibn Shihāb, from his uncle—who said:
Sālim said: I heard Abū Hurayrah say:
“I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: ‘All of my community will be pardoned except those who sin openly. Part of openly sinning is that a servant commits a deed at night, and though his Lord has covered him, he wakes up and says, “So-and-so, I did such-and-such last night,” while he had spent the night under his Lord’s concealment; yet in the morning he tears away Allah’s covering from himself.’” (2)
