Al-Bukhārī adduced it as supporting evidence.
Shuʿbah narrated—from Ḥumayd ibn Hilāl—from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Mughafal—who said: “On the day of Khaybar a leather bag filled with fat was lowered down. I seized it, hugged it to myself, and said, ‘I shall not give anyone any of it.’ When I turned around, I saw the Prophet ﷺ smiling, so I felt ashamed before him.” Agreed upon.
Abū Muʿāwiyah related to us, saying: Abū Isḥāq al-Shaybānī told us, from Muḥammad ibn Abī Mujālid, from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Abī Awfā, who said: “I asked, ‘Did you deduct the khums (one-fifth) from foodstuffs in the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ?’ He replied, ‘We came upon provisions on the day of Khaybar; each man would take from them what sufficed him and then depart.’” Reported by Abū Dāwūd.
Abū Muʿāwiyah also narrated—from ʿĀṣim al-Aḥwal—from Abū ʿUthmān al-Nahdī (or from Abū Qilābah)—who said: “When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ arrived at Khaybar, the dates were still green. The people ate from them and were stricken with fever. They complained to him, so he instructed them to fill water-skins with water and leave them overnight, then to pour the water over themselves between the two calls to dawn while mentioning the name of Allah over it. They did so, and it was as though they had been released from shackles.”
Bishr ibn al-Mufaḍḍal narrated, from Muḥammad ibn Zayd: ʿUmayr, the client of Abī al-Laḥm, told me: “I was present at Khaybar with my masters, who spoke to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on my behalf. He ordered that I be girded with a sword, but I found myself dragging it along. When he was informed that I was a slave, he ordered that I be given some of the odds and ends of the spoils.” Reported by Abū Dāwūd.
