while what was taken by treaty he retained for unforeseen needs and for whatever served the common good of the Muslims.
ʿAbd al-Razzāq said: Maʿmar related to us, from ʿUbayd Allah ibn ʿUmar, from Nāfiʿ, from Ibn ʿUmar, that when the Prophet ﷺ put Khaybar under a sharecropping arrangement it already had cultivated fields and date-palms. Each year he would allot to every one of his wives one hundred wasqs of dates and twenty wasqs of barley.
Al-Dhuhli transmitted the same report from ʿAbd al-Razzāq but omitted the name of Ibn ʿUmar.
Ibn Wahb said: Yaḥyā ibn Ayyūb reported to me: Ibrāhīm ibn Saʿd told me, from Kathīr, the client of the Banu Makhzūm, from ʿAṭāʾ, from Ibn ʿAbbās, that on the day of Khaybar the Messenger of Allah ﷺ assigned to the two hundred horses two shares each.
Ibn Wahb added: Yaḥyā ibn Ayyūb likewise informed me, on the authority of Yaḥyā ibn Saʿīd and Ṣāliḥ ibn Kaysān, to the same effect.
Ibn ʿUyayna said: Yaḥyā ibn Saʿd narrated to us, from Ṣāliḥ ibn Kaysān, who said: On the day of Khaybar the fighting men numbered one thousand four hundred, and the horses numbered two hundred.
Yūnus narrated from Ibn Isḥāq: al-Zuhrī told me, from Saʿīd ibn al-Musayyib, from Jubayr ibn Muṭʿim, who said: When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ distributed the kinship share of Khaybar to the Banu Hāshim and the Banu al-Muttalib, ʿUthmān and I went to him and said, “Messenger of Allah, these are your brothers the Banu Hāshim— we do not deny their merit because of the rank Allah has granted you among them. But what of our brothers the Banu al-Muttalib? You have given to them and left us out, even though we and they stand in the same relation to you.” He replied, “They have never left our side, in the Time of Ignorance nor in Islam. The Banu Hāshim and the Banu al-Muttalib are but one.” He then interlaced the fingers of one hand with those of the other.
