It was recorded by al-Bukhari from ʿAbd Allah ibn Yusuf, and by Muslim from Yahya ibn Yahya—both transmitting from Malik.
Al-Bukhari also narrated it through Musaddad, from Yahya ibn Saʿid, from ʿUbayd Allah ibn ʿUmar; and Muslim through Ibn Numayr, from his father, from ʿUbayd Allah; and through Harmalah, from Ibn Wahb, from Yunus; and through ʿAbd ibn Humayd, from ʿAbd al-Razzaq, from Maʿmar (1)—all of them reporting from Ibn Shihab.
Al-Nasaʾi likewise transmitted it in his collection of Malik’s hadith, stating:
“Zakariyya al-Sijzi narrated to us, saying: Ibrahim ibn ʿAbd Allah—who is Ibn Abi Shaybah—narrated to us, from Saʿid ibn Maḥbub, from ʿAbthar ibn al-Qasim, from Sufyan al-Thawri, from Imam Malik.”
It seems that my teachers received this narration directly from al-Nasaʾi.
Abu al-Qasim (2) in al-Nubl named Abu Musʿab’s father Zurara, yet the correct view is that only his kunyah is known. The evidence is what Ahmad ibn ʿAsakir told me from ʿAbd al-Muʿizz ibn Muḥammad: Zahir informed us; Muḥammad informed us; Abu Ahmad al-Hakim informed us; Muḥammad ibn Ibrahim ibn Ziyad al-Tayalisi informed us; Abu Musʿab Aḥmad ibn Abi Bakr al-Zuhri narrated to us, and when we asked him his father’s name, he replied, “No personal name is known for him.”
