It was recorded solely by al-Tirmidhī, through a reliable transmitter from Abū Muʿāwiyah, and he treated it as two separate reports.
I recited this narration to Aḥmad ibn Hibat Allāh ibn Aḥmad, who related it from ʿAbd al-Muʿizz ibn Muḥammad. Tamīm al-Jurjānī informed us; Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān informed us; Abū ʿAmr ibn Ḥamdān informed us; Abū Yaʿlā informed us; Abū Kurayb narrated to us; Abū Usāmah narrated, from Burayd ibn ʿAbd Allāh, from Abū Burdah, from Abū Mūsā, who said:
Whenever the Messenger of Allah—peace and blessings be upon him—sent one of his Companions on a mission, he would say, “Give glad tidings and do not drive people away, and make things easy and do not make them difficult.”
Muslim also recorded it (1) through Abū Kurayb, and our chain coincides with his.

He did not meet Sufyān ibn ʿUyaynah.
Those who transmitted from him include the compilers of the major collections—apart from al-Nasāʾī—as well as Abū Bakr ibn Abī ʿĀṣim and Abū
