ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. Yaḥyā b. Khāqān said, “I asked Aḥmad b. Ḥanbal about Sajjadah,” and he replied, “He is a man of the Sunnah; I have heard nothing about him except good.”
I say: He was counted among the leading and trustworthy scholars of his time.
Aḥmad b. Isḥāq informed us; al-Fath b. ʿAbd Allāh informed us; Hibat Allāh b. Ḥusayn informed us; Aḥmad b. Muḥammad narrated to us; ʿĪsā b. al-Wazīr narrated, saying:
“It was read to Yaḥyā b. Muḥammad—while I was listening—that it was said to him: ‘Al-Ḥasan b. Ḥammād Sajjadah and ʿAbd Allāh b. al-Waḍḍāḥ narrated to you, and they said: ʿAmr b. Hāshim al-Janbī narrated to us, from ʿUbayd Allāh b. ʿUmar, from Nāfiʿ, from Ibn ʿUmar, who said:
A woman used to visit a certain group, borrow jewellery from them, and then keep it. The matter was brought before the Prophet ﷺ, and he said, “Let this woman repent to Allah and His Messenger, and return the people’s property to them. Get up, O so-and-so, and cut off her hand.”’ ”
Al-Nasāʾī recorded it (1) through ʿUthmān b. ʿAbd Allāh from Sajjadah, thereby securing a chain two grades higher.
Sajjadah died in Rajab of the year 241 AH.
