Abu al-Fadl Aḥmad ibn Hibat-Allah ibn Tāj al-Umānāʾ informed us; ʿAbd al-Muʿizz ibn Muḥammad informed us; Tamīm ibn Abī Saʿīd informed us; Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān informed us; Abū ʿAmr ibn Ḥamdān narrated to us; Abū Yaʿlā al-Mawṣilī narrated to us; Yaḥyā ibn Ayyūb narrated to us; Ismāʿīl ibn Jaʿfar narrated to us; al-ʿAlāʾ told me, from his father, from Abū Hurayrah, who said:
The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Whoever calls people to guidance will receive a reward equal to the rewards of all who follow him, without those rewards being diminished in the least. And whoever calls people to misguidance will bear a burden of sin equal to the sins of all who follow him, without their sins being diminished in the least.”
This is a sound (ṣaḥīḥ), singular (gharīb) ḥadith. Muslim and Abū Dāwūd also transmitted it from Yaḥyā, and our chain coincides with theirs while being higher (ʿulūw).
ʿAbd al-Ḥāfiẓ and Ibn Ghāliyah⦗2⦘ informed us, saying: Mūsā ibn ʿAbd al-Qādir informed us; Saʿīd ibn Aḥmad informed us; ʿAlī ibn Aḥmad informed us; Abū Ṭāhir al-Mukhlis narrated to us; ʿAbd Allah ibn Muḥammad narrated to us; Yaḥyā ibn Ayyūb the devotee narrated to us; Saʿīd ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-Jumaḥī, from Abū Ḥāzim, from Sahl ibn Saʿd, who said:
The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “A person—indeed a man—may perform the deeds of the people of Hell as far as people can see, yet in truth he is one of the people of Paradise.”
Al-Bukhārī⦗3⦘ recorded this through the route of Abū Ḥāzim in a version longer than the present wording.
