Ninth – al-Dhahabī’s Works
This is a concise checklist of the works of the historian of Islam, al-Dhahabī. I have limited myself to mentioning what he authored, abridged, or extracted, presenting it in the briefest possible form, for the details are set out in my book Al-Dhahabī and His Methodology in His History of Islam (1). I have followed the method outlined below:
1 – I divided the works according to subject matter and arranged the titles listed under each subject in alphabetical order. As for the abridgements, selections, and takhrīj collections, I merely listed them in that same order without further subdivision.
2 – I indicated whenever a work is extant—whether in manuscript or printed form—and cited one of its editions or copies in parentheses; any work for which I could find no copy is left without such an indication.
First: Qurʾānic Readings
1 – al-Talwīḥāt fī ʿIlm al-Qirāʾāt (Brockelmann: Supplement 2/47).
Second: Hadith
2 – al-Arbaʿūn al-Baladāniyya (Forty Hadiths on Cities).
3 – al-Thalāthūn al-Baladāniyya (Thirty Hadiths on Cities).
4 – Ṭuruq Ḥadīth “Man kuntu mawlāhu fa-ʿAlīyyun mawlāhu” (The Chains of Transmission for the hadith, “Whoever takes me as his master, ʿAlī is his master”).
5 – al-Kalām ʿalā Ḥadīth al-Ṭayr (A Treatise on the Hadith of the Bird).
6 – al-Mustadrak ʿalā Mustadrak al-Ḥākim (al-Ẓāhiriyya Library: Majāmiʿ 62).
