Ibn Abī Ḥātim said: “My father heard his narrations in Baghdad in the year 215 AH, after he had lost his sight, relying solely on what he had memorized.”
Abū Dāwūd said: “I heard a trustworthy informant relate that Hārūn ibn Maʿrūf said:

He added, ‘So I assumed that the loss of my eyesight was on account of that.’”

He died at the end of the month of Ramadan in 231 AH, at the age of seventy-four.
