I say: he lived for ninety-three years.
As for:
38 – Muḥammad ibn Bakkār ibn Bilāl al-ʿĀmilī*—the mufti and judge of Damascus, a leading imam and ḥadith scholar, Abū ʿAbd Allāh al-Dimashqī, father of the two ḥadith transmitters Hārūn and al-Ḥasan—he bore the same name as the previous narrator and belonged to the same generation.
His son al-Ḥasan related that he was born in 142 AH.
He transmitted ḥadith from Mūsā ibn ʿUlayy ibn Rabāḥ, Muḥammad ibn Rāshid al-Makḥūlī, Saʿīd ibn ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz, Saʿīd ibn Bashīr, al-Layth ibn Saʿd, the judge Yaḥyā ibn Ḥamzah, and a number of others.
Those who narrated from him include his two sons and his grandson al-Ḥasan ibn Aḥmad, as well as Aḥmad ibn Abī al-Ḥawārī, Abū Zurʿah al-Dimashqī, Muḥammad ibn Yaḥyā al-Dhuhalī, Abū Ḥātim al-Rāzī, Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn al-Ashʿath al-Dimashqī, ʿAlī ibn Ishkāb (1), and many others.
Abū Zurʿah listed him among the scholars qualified to issue legal opinions in Damascus.
