Hammad ibn Salamah, through Abu al-ʿAsharaʾ, from his father, who said:
“I asked, ‘O Messenger of Allah, is ritual slaughter valid only when the cut is made at the throat (labbah)?’
He replied, ‘If you were to stab its thigh, it would still suffice for you.’ (1)
This hadith possesses a sound chain of transmission and is singular (gharīb). It is recorded in the four Sunan collections by way of Hammad.
Kamil died in 231 AH. Musa ibn Harun documented him and remarked, ‘He used to apply dye.’
His nephew:
35 – Abu Kamil al-Fudayl ibn al-Husayn ibn Talhah al-Jahdari * (cited by al-Bukhari, Muslim, Abu Dawud, and al-Nasaʾi)
A Basran ḥāfiẓ.
He heard hadith from Hammad ibn Salamah, Sulaym ibn Akhdar, Hammad ibn Zayd, ʿAbd al-Wāḥid ibn Ziyād, Khalid ibn ʿAbd Allah, and many others.
Among those who narrated from him are Muslim, Abu Dawud, al-Bukhari in muʿallaq form, al-Nasaʾi through an intermediary, Abu Bakr ibn Abi ʿĀṣim, ʿAbdān al-Ahwazi, Abu al-Qasim al-Baghawi, and others.
He passed away in 237 AH—the same year in which ʿAbd al-Aʿlā ibn Hammad al-Narsi and Muhammad ibn Bakkār al-Sayrafi also died.
