he be washed upon it. So he was washed upon it and was buried on Friday, in the month of Dhu’l-Qaʿdah.

Mahīb said, “In that very year I was born”—meaning the year 233 AH.

ʿAbbās al-Dūrī said, “He died before performing the pilgrimage that year. The governor of Medina led the funeral prayer over him, and al-Ḥizāmī spoke with the governor, so they brought out the Prophet’s bier and he was carried upon it.”

Aḥmad ibn Abī Khaythamah said, “Yaḥyā died with seven days remaining in Dhu’l-Qaʿdah of the year 233, having completed seventy-five years and entered his seventy-sixth. He was buried in al-Baqīʿ.”

Hubaysh ibn Mubashshir the jurist—who is reliable—said, “I saw Yaḥyā ibn Maʿīn in a dream and asked him, ‘What has Allah done with you?’ He replied, ‘He has given to me, favored me, and married me to three hundred ḥūrīs, and He has spread out for me a couch between the two gates (1)—or he said: among the people.’”
Jaʿfar ibn Abī ʿUthmān heard this account from Hubaysh.

Al-Ḥusayn ibn al-Khaṣīb also narrated it from Hubaysh. He said, “I saw Yaḥyā ibn Maʿīn in a dream and asked him, ‘What has Allah done with you?’ He answered, ‘He admitted me to His abode and married me to three hundred ḥūrīs.’ Then He said to the angels, ‘Look at My servant—how fresh and fair he has become!’ ”

Aḥmad ibn Yaḥyā ibn al-Jārūd reported that Ibn al-Madīnī said, “I do not know anyone who has written what Yaḥyā ibn Maʿīn wrote.”

Ibn al-Barāʾ said, “I heard ʿAlī say, ‘We do not know anyone, from the time of Adam onward, who recorded as many hadiths as Ibn Maʿīn.’ ”

Muḥammad ibn ʿAlī ibn Rāshid al-Ṭabarī, citing Muḥammad ibn Naṣr al-Ṭabarī, said, “I entered upon Yaḥyā ibn Maʿīn and found with him several baskets of notebooks, and I heard him—”
